GOLA Handle-less System

European Minimalist Custom Cabinetry

What is GOLA?

It is impossible to talk about European minimalist kitchen cabinetry without mentioning GOLA handleless system, the perfect combination of functionality and aesthetics. Introduced by Italian manufacturer Scilm in 1988, GOLA profiles are unique aluminum continuous channels mounted to the cabinet carcasses rather than the doors. The name 'GOLA' in Italian literally means canyon or rift, representing the look that it creates on smooth cabinet fronts. The GOLA profiles provide a space above the cabinet doors and drawer fronts to allows customers to pull the doors or drawers open with their fingertips effortlessly, replacing the traditionally protruding cabinet handles or pulls.

GOLA can be easily confused with GOLA-look profile handles. GOLA-look profile handles are mounted directly on individual cabinet doors and drawer fronts, and they can be used in combination with under-the-counter flat channels.

Other than Scilm, manufacturers such as Rincomatic and Hafele are offering a wide range of very similar GOLA profiles. Most recent trend has seen GOLA combined with LED lighting to offer a striking and high-function custom look.

GOLA Profiles and Applications

The most popular GOLA profiles are the horizontal and vertical "J" and "C" shaped profile channels. There are different variations of the GOLA profiles coming from different manufacturers, however the general idea is the same.

The vast majority of GOLA usage is concentrated on base cabinets by using horizontal "L" shaped GOLA profiles for under the countertop application and horizontal "C" shaped GOLA profiles for in-between drawers application. End caps and additional internal and external corner connector pieces are utilized for continuous GOLA look when needed.
